2020 Grantees Announced By Barbara McDowell Foundation

The Barbara McDowell and Gerald S. Hartman Foundation has selected the following four organizations for 2020 grants, each receiving an award of $40,000:

The grantees were selected after a rigorous review process conducted by the staff and Board of Directors of the Foundation.

The Foundation’s 2020 grants are funding cases aimed at:

  • restoring voting rights to felons

  • challenging unlawful police stops that impact minority communities

  • ending unreasonable delays of veteran's medical appeals

  • challenging the Department of Education's policy changes to sex discrimination claims in federally funded education programs

These five grantees will further the Foundation’s mission of improving the economic well-being, social conditions, and civil liberties of disadvantaged persons and groups in the United States.

The Foundation received this year 72 applications from very worthy organizations. The Board of Directors of the Foundation faced a very difficult task in making its grant decisions. The Foundation encourages applicant organizations not selected as grant winners to submit an application in future years. Interested organizations can review the Foundation’s website for deadlines associated with submitting a grant application.
