Honoring Dana Foster: 2024 Champion for Justice Award Recipient

The evening included the presentation of the prestigious Champion for Justice Award to Dana Foster, Partner at White & Case. Dana, a dedicated board member of the Barbara McDowell Foundation and the Public Interest Law Center, has exemplified a lifelong commitment to pro bono work and public service. Announcing the 2025 Grantees

The Foundation was proud to announce the 2025 grantees, who will receive support to further their impactful work: National Immigration Litigation Alliance, The Center for Public Representation, Our Children’s Trust, A Better Childhood, and Upper Seven Law.

 

Highlights of the Evening

Professor Abbe Smith of Georgetown Law School spoke about her ongoing work in criminal justice reform, particularly focused on providing second chances for incarcerated individuals. Her commitment to fair treatment and rehabilitation underscores the foundation’s mission to ensure justice for all.

Another highlight of the evening was a keynote address by Neal Katyal, former Acting Solicitor General of the United States. Katyal reflected on the profound influence Barbara McDowell had on his life and career, offering a moving tribute to her legacy in public interest law. Exciting New Initiatives

Jerry Hartman, Chair and President of the Foundation, announced the filing of the Barbara McDowell Public Interest Law Center’s first two class action cases, set to begin this Fall. These cases represent the Foundation's ongoing efforts to create systemic change, advancing justice and equal rights for all.
