2018 Grantee Case Update From Children's Rights
Children’s Rights received a grant from the Foundation in 2018 in connection with its lawsuit (M.B. v. Corsi) against the Missouri Department of Social Services addressing the unsafe administration of psychotropic medications to children in foster care which were alleged to cause an unreasonable risk of serious physical and psychological harm.
The case, the first of its kind, has settled with significant changes in the State’s procedures. Favorable stories about the settlement appeared in newspapers including the Saint Louis Dispatch, the Washington Post, and the New York Times. The settlement occurred after Children’s Rights successfully defeated a motion to dismiss and the case was certified as a class action.
The Court’s order on that motion to dismiss appears below.
